Brief History of Beulah Grove
Baptist Church
Beulah Grove Baptist Church of Newark was organized by the late Rev Governor Solomon, son of the late Deacon and Mrs. Benjamin Solomon. It was also recognized and set apart as a regular Baptist Church on the 8th day of June 1944 which.
Rev. Solomon believed and lived for Beulah Grove Baptist until his death in the year 1958. After his passing and mourning the church called Rev. J. Smith. Then Rev. L Lyles and Rev. J. Brown.
Later when the pulpit became vacant they secure the late Rev. J Reynolds to assisted being a friend and spiritual advisor to the members of the church. Rev. Reynolds introduced the church to the Rev A. Johnson. In the year 1966, Rev A. Johnson was called to Pastor the Beulah Grove Baptist Church. Under the leadership of the new pastor, the church began to grow numerically and financially. In 1966 Rev. Johnson and members of the church began looking for a new church building.
In 1967 the church moved from 21 Hillside Place to 244 Littleton Avenue, Newark, NJ. Pastor Johnson and the deacons board who worked faithfully, Deacon Sam Tibbs,-chairman who served faithfully until 1981 . Deacon Curtis Solomon, Deacon Jessie comer and Deacon Solomon worked very hard bringing different singing groups such as The Solomon singers to the church. Sis. Joel was a trustee and worked in many Auxiliaries, instrumental in organizing the junior choir.
Some of the auxiliaries began renovating the church; new furniture was purchased for the pulpit and communion service. The Willing workers club, was organized in 1970 by Sis. Mildred Forehand, they were instrumental in the remolding of the dining room and kitchen of the church, also purchased appliances for the kitchen & organ for the church. On December 14, 1979, the church paid off its mortgage. This was a high day inn Beulah Grove – a new spirit was awakened.
In 1981, Sister Betty Tuner, chairman of the woman ministry was instrumental in our first Woman’s day service.
In the year 1982 we installed a pool in the basement. We purchased pews and carpeting, paneled the walls in the dining area and other places in the church.
In 1985 Beulah Grove was destroyed by fire. Everything burned except the word of God. , not one page in the bile was destroyed. It was a very painful and powerful rime for Pastor Johnson and his flock. However, Rev. Johnson’s great reputation fueled by faith and trust in God lead the congregation to a place of worship In 1986 Rev. Johnson and his congregation moved to its present location 59-63 Springdale Avenue, Newark, NJ
In March of 2000 Sis. Johnson fell ill, with this burden on Pastor Johnson’s life Rev. Earlie Gresham was called to Assist Pastor Johnson in his pastoral duties. In 2000, Sis. Johnson was called to be with the Lord. Later that year Rev. Earlie Gresham was called as the next Pastor of Beulah Grove, where he served for 2 years. In 2002 Rev. James K. Williams was called to serve until 2006.
We prayed and asked God to bless u s with a new leader, reaching out to Rev. Kenneth D. R. Clayton, Moderator of the Shiloh Baptist Association and Rev. Michael Burton, we formed a pulpit committee being Led by God’s grace on the 2nd Sunday of September 2007 we unanimously called our present Pastor Rev. Cedric J. McKoy. We thank God every day for his he’s a true man of God a man with vision, mission to Challenge Gods people to the throne of Grace. We love him and our First Lady Tamisha McKoy. Under his leadership our church has grown from 12 to 58 members in a year’s time, Pastor McKoy has led us to organize an intercessory Prayer Ministry, Building fund campaign, health and Wholeness Ministry, Youth Ministry, Men Ministry, Seeds of Sarah Woman’s Ministry, reorganized our Nurses Ministry, Missionary Ministry, Youth Choir, Renovated our church office space, Installed a baptismal pool, purchased a church van, paved the parking area ,partial renovation of the sanctuary and fellowship hall, 2014 we birthed the Compassion in action food pantry, and incorporated the Beulah Grove CDC "501c3" corporation that will further help the church do ministry within our church and community . The work still continues, To God Be the Glory.
